This gorgeous piece of royal blue Azurite, sky blue Chrysocolla, and tiny spots of red Cuprite is from the Bluebird Mine in Arizona.
Azurite is a very popular mineral because of its unparalleled color, a deep royal blue called "azure", hence its name. Azure is derived from the arabic word for blue. The color is due to the presence of copper (a strong coloring agent). Azurite has been used as a dye for paints and fabrics for eons. It is very similar in composition and often found with green Malachite. Chrysocolla and Cuprite are also a copper carbonates.
