Kalahari Jasper
Kalahari Jasper is an interesting Picture Jasper with mostly brown swirls.
It is found in the Kalahari Desert, in South Africa near the Namibia border. Kalahari means "the great thirst". The Kalahari Desert stretches across seven countries: Botswana, Zambia, the Republic of South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Though it is not a true desert, as it does receive too much rainfall.
Jasper is an ornamental rock composed mostly of chalcedony, microcrystalline quartz, in association with other minerals, which give it colorful bands and patterns.
Jasper was a favorite gem in the ancient world, and the name jasper can be traced back in Hebrew, Assyrian, Persian, Greek, and Latin.
