Laguna Agate comes from Northern Mexico and is well known for its vibrant colors of reds! The Laguna Agate area is in the state of Chihuahua, about 150 miles south of the U.S.-Mexican border. It is found in several sites on the mountain covering a distance of over 4 miles. These agates sometimes contain sagenites, moss and/or tubes.
Agate is a member of the chalcedony family, or a microcrystalline quartz, and it has a hardness of about 7 on the Moh's scale. The name is derived from its occurrence at the Achates River in southwestern Sicily.
Metaphysical properties of Laguna Agate: In general Agates are said to be stabilizing and strengthening. They improve memory and increase energy.
In many traditions agate is believed to cure the stings of scorpions and the bites of snakes, soothe the mind, prevent contagion, quiet thunder and lightning, secure the favor of the powerful, and bring victory over enemies.
Cabochons are stones cut for jewelry and are measured in mm. One inch is equal to about 25 mm. 13 mm is only about 1/2 inch.
