Medicine Bow Dendritic Agate is a white agate with black manganese spots or dendrites. It is found in veins and bubbles in rock that has been permeated by volcanic gasses. Medicine Bow Agate comes from the west side of the Laramie Range in the Wyoming Medicine Bow Country. Dendrites are tree-like inclusions, and were named after the Greek word meaning tree-like.
Agate is a type of chalcedony, usually at least slightly translucent and banded or with inclusions. It forms in concentric layers in a wide variety of colors and textures. Each individual agate forms by filling a cavity in host rock. Agate has a hardness of about 7 on the Moh's scale and is great material for cabochons for jewelry. The name is derived from its occurrence at the Achates River in southwestern Sicily.
Metaphysical Properties of Dendritic Agate: Dendritic Agate is said to assist one in overcoming the sources of guilt, resentment, envy, shame, blame, and other self-destructive emotions.
