Noreena Jasper Cabochon
This lovely triangle shaped Noreena Jasper designer cabochon is 38 mm long by 35 mm wide at the bottom and 4 mm thick.
Noreena Jasper is a new material that comes from Pilbara region of Western Australia, some 700 miles north of the capital, Perth.
Jasper is from the chalcedony/quartz group. It is a microcrystalline variety of quartz that contains up to 20% foreign material. These materials are what determine the color and appearance of the stone. Also because of the foreign materials, jasper is rarely uniform in color, it is usually multicolored, striped, and/or spotted.
Noreena Jasper is a silicified pelite (mudstone) and is believed to be 2765-2687 million years old.
Cabochons are stones cut for jewelry and are measured in mm. One inch is equal to about 25 mm. 13 mm is only about 1/2 inch.
