African Chrysocolla Malachite Polished Decorator Rock

This is lovely polished piece of Chrysocolla Malachite. It is "rough" polished completely-meaning it has some cracks and chips. The top is pretty solid on this piece but the bottom is a little crumbly. This material is very fragile and tends to leave behind little blue chips, please handle it carefully and as little as possible.

This material is found in the oxidation zone of major copper deposits. This piece came out of the Katanga Mine, in the Congo, Africa.

Piece is 4.25 inches long by 2.5 inches wide, and about 2 inches at its thickest. It weighs just over 1 lb.

Chrysocolla is named from the Greek chrysos - "gold" and kolla - "glue" in allusion to the name of the material used to solder gold. Malachite is is named for the Greek word for "mallow", a green herb.
