Stone Carving Gemstone Black Hematite 1.75 inch Egg Henatite is a silvery, shiny opaque black gemstone that almost looks like metal. It was used in seals as early as 2500 B.C. Roman warriors used it as protection during battles, and Native Americans used it to make red face paint. Until recently cosmetic blush contained ground hematite. Hematite gets its name from the Greek Haimo for "blood", because of the color of its powder (hence the red streak it leaves). This hand carved egg is 1.75 inches high and is a dark metallic gray - very reflective and hard to photograph. Shipping terms: I am always happy to combine shipping.
