Hemimorphite Mineral Specimen Rock Ojuela Mine Mexico Hemimorphite is one of the more common sorosilicates and is an important ore of zinc. Its most noteworthy characteristic is its polar or hemimorphic crystals from where it gets its name. This unusual form, which is typical of only a few minerals, means that the crystals are terminated by dissimilar faces. The hemi means half while the morph means shape. Hemimorphite was originally named Calamine, but this name had been used for another mineral, a zinc carbonate, and in the second half of the 18th century the zinc silicate, the rarer of the two, was changed to Hemimorphite. This specimen comes from the Ojuela Mine in Mapimi, Durango, Mexico. It is about 2 inches long, by about 1.75 inches at its widest, and 1.25 inch thick. #3 Metaphysical Properties: Hemimorphite is a powerful stone for forgiveness, it is said to help release resentment and anger. It also is believed to be beneficial for PMS suffers! E-mail a friend about this item. | |||||||||||||||
