Optically clear, natural Quartz crystal from Minas Gerais, Brazil. Quartz is one of the most abundant minerals on earth. It is found on every continent, and just about every country. It has a hardness of 7. Quartz occurs in many formations, both massive and crystals.

Quartz has long been the subject of spiritual beliefs and folklore. Crystal balls brought back by the Crusaders where believed to possess magical powers. In fact, the name crystal comes from the Greek word for "ice", as it was believed that rock crystal was eternally frozen. The name citrine comes from from the french word citron, which means lemon. Citrine, along with Topaz is the birthstone for November.

Optically clear does not mean it has no inclusions. It means that the crystal is not milky or cloudy at all. This piece has very few nearly invisible tiny inclusions.
