Black Hematite Hand Carved Frog 1.25 inch Pendant on Black Cord This hand carved frog is about 1.25 inch long by almost 1 inch wide and more than .25 inch thick. It has lots of detail and is very nice! The mouth area is drilled and it is strung on a black cloth cord that is 26 inches long. It hangs at 13 inches, but is designed with slip knots to be ajustable to whatever length you wish to wear it at! Hematite is a silvery, shiny, opaque black gemstone that almost looks like metal. It was used in seals as early as 2500 B.C. Roman warriors used it as protection during battles, and Native Americans used it to make red face paint. Until recently cosmetic blush contained ground hematite. Hematite gets its name from the Greek Haimo for "blood", because of the color of its powder (hence the red streak it leaves). I have 2 of these and though they are unique because they are hand carved, they are very similar. I will choose for you. E-mail a friend about this item.
