Australian Tiger Iron Stone Decorator Polished Slab Rock

Beautiful brown and gold with bands of metallic black Tiger Iron from Australia.

Tiger Iron consists of Red Jasper, Hematite, and Tiger's Eye (or tigereye).  Tiger iron is a great example of a metamorphosed gemstone: More than 2 billion years ago, deposits of these three materials were slowly mashed together as tectonic plates shifted. The tremendous pressures on the original crystals resulted in the intricate, banded designs of tiger iron. Each stone can be seen distinctly in layers of gold, silver, brown and red, drawing unique vertical and horizontal patterns. While the stone is many millennia old, it only recently has become known on the market.

This very flashy, thick slab has been polished on both sides, left rough on the edges, but it can be recut too.  It weighs .88 lb.   It is 4.5 inches long by 3.5 inches wide and 15 mm or more than .5 inch thick.   It will stand on its own on its edge!
