Cobalto Calcite Mineral Specimen Pink Magenta Crystal

Lovely sparkly cabochon of magenta pink Cobalto Calcite (AKA Cobalticalcite, Sphaerocobaltite, and cobaltian-calcite) from the Kakanda Mine, Shaba Province, Zaire, Africa.

This is a variety of Calcite containing Cobalt. The result of the presence of the cobalt is that the calcite is colored a pale pink. In pure sphaerocobaltite (most examples contain a small but significant percentage of calcium), the coloring effect is magnified. The sometimes deep rose-red to pink color is very attractive and unique.

This freeform custom cut cabochon is 20 mm by 13 mm and 4 mm thick.
