Optically clear, natural Quartz crystal from Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Quartz is one of the most abundant minerals on earth. It is found on every continent, and just about every country. It has a hardness of 7. Quartz occurs in many formations, both massive and crystals.

Quartz has long been the subject of spiritual beliefs and folklore. Crystal balls brought back by the Crusaders where believed to possess magical powers. In fact, the name crystal comes from the Greek word for "ice", as it was believed that rock crystal was eternally frozen.

Optically clear does not mean it has no inclusions. It means that the crystal is not milky or cloudy at all. This piece has many inclusions. It is custom cut into a "flame" shaped polished piece that stands about 3.5 inches tall and is about 2 inches wide by 1.5 inches thick.
