Rare Chrysocolla & Red Cuprite Polished Piece Rock Stone Endcut

This is a absolutely gorgeous polished piece of Chrysocolla Cuprite (and Chalcotricite= orangey red) from Mexico! It is also called Sonora Sunset or Sonora Sunrise.

This larger, lovely piece is polished down its face and around the edges. Left natural rough on its 2 sides and back, and sliced to stand but still rough on the bottom. The polished face is 5.25 inches long by 3.25 inches wide. The piece stands 4.5 inches tall, and is 3.5 inches thick at the base. It weighs 3.28 lbs!

This brand new material is from the Millpillas Mine in Sonora Mexico. The mine opened in 2006. Though most copper mines are open pit mines-this material is covered by 1000 feet of gravel!

Chrysocolla is known as a healing stone among Native American Indian cultures where it was used for strengthening the body's resistance and bringing about calm feelings where there is upset.

Chrysocolla is named from the Greek chrysos - "gold" and kolla - "glue" in allusion to the name of the material used to solder gold. Cuprite is named from the Latin, cuprum, meaning copper.
