Frog Green Zoisite on Black Cord Necklace Stone Gem

This material comes from Tanzania.  Zoisite is granular and tends to appear sugary in the rough. Due to its nature this frog has a pitted surface!

Zoisite was named for the Slovenian noble, Sigmund Zois (1747-1819), Baron of Edelstein, whose interest in minerals led to his financing mineral collecting expeditions. It is said, however, that this mineral, first found in 1805 in Austria, was originally called saualpite and only later renamed zoisite.

This hand carved frog is about 1.25 inch long by almost 1 inch wide and more than .25 inch thick. It has lots of detail and is very nice! The mouth area is drilled and it is strung on a black cloth cord that is 26 inches long. It hangs at 13 inches, but is designed with slip knots to be ajustable to whatever length you wish to wear it at!

The frog represents healing, cleansing, health, and honesty. In myths they are bringers of rain or thunder, calling the water down with their croaking. In Ancient China toads were a symbol of longevity, and they were associated with Liu Hai, the God of wealth. In Rome, the frog was believed to bring good luck to the home.
