Brachiopod Fossil 2.5 inch Stone Sphere Rock

This is neat! A lovely gray, black and white Brachiopod fossil sphere (prehistoric clam like shell)! Found in China.

This material has been mistakenly called by the Chinese "Black and White Ocean Jasper"- but it is actually a black marble matrix. It has also, more appropriately, been called Fossil Jasper.

Brachipods are two shelled animals that lived on the shallow sea bottom, mostly in the Paleozoic Era.

Sphere is hand cut and 67.5 mm or 2.5 inches in diameter.
