Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper Gemstone Cabochon Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper is an orbicular red jasper with red, white and/or yellow dots or "poppy flowers". It comes from Morgan Hill, California. Jasper is from the chalcedony/quartz group. It is a microcrystalline variety of quartz that contains up to 20% foreign material. These materials are what determine the color and appearance of the stone. Also because of the foreign materials, jasper is rarely uniform in color, it is usually multicolored, striped, and/or spotted. This beautiful cabochon is cut into an oval shape for the creative jeweler or wirewrapper. It is 39 mm long by 15 mm wide, and 6 mm thick. As is common for this material-it does have some natural surface fracture lines.
