Fossil Coral Rough Rock

Fossil coral is actually a chalcedony pseudomorph after coral. It is ancient coral that has changed into an agate. The process occurred when silica in the ocean water hardened, replacing the limy coral. The term fossil refers to any preserved remains or imprint of a living organism (usually ancient).

This lovely gray white coral has a striking pattern.

This rough slab is 9.25 inches by 4.75 inches and 8 mm thick. It weighs 1.06 lbs and is shown wet in the first 2 pictures.
