Chrysocolla Malachite Stabilized Rough Rock Chunk Stone Gorgeous piece of Chrysocolla Malachite rough! It is polished in one area to show its beautiful color and pattern! Chrysocolla and Malachite are copper ores and Arizona is the leading copper producing state. This material was found in the Bagdad Copper Mine in Arizona. This mine is still operating, but it is believed that the oxide zones that produce this material are all played out. This material is known for being hard to cut, but this chunk is stabilized (soaked in a resin) for easy cutting! It is more than 2.5 inches long by 2.25 inches wide and almost 1.5 inches thick. It weighs .32 lbs (5 oz). #1 Chrysocolla is known as a healing stone among Native American Indian cultures where it was used for strengthening the body's resistance and bringing about calm feelings where there is upset. Chrysocolla is named from the Greek chrysos - "gold" and kolla - "glue" in allusion to the name of the material used to solder gold. Malachite is is named for the Greek word for "mallow", a green herb.
