Natural Fossil Lake Fish Fossil A Knightia Eocaena fossil fish from Fossil Lake, Wyoming, approximately 50 million years old, from the Eocine period. Since its discovery in the 1870s, Fossil Lake has produced more than a million perfectly preserved fossil fish in Limestone bases, as well as insects, amphibians, alligators, turles, birds, mammals (including a horse!), snakes, and plants. The term fossil refers to any preserved remains or imprint of a living organism (usually ancient), such as a bone, shell, footprint, or leaf impression. The Knightia Eocaena is the most common fish in Fossil Lake and is Wyoming's state fossil. Metaphysical Properties: Fossils can help increase accomplishments in the area of business and add excellence to one's environment. They also aid one in being open to change and new ideas. This one is 4.25 inches long by 3.5 inches wide and thin at 4 mm or 1/8 inch thick. The fish is 2.5 inches long. It weighs 2 ounces.
