Chrysanthemum Stone Natural Rock Stone

Found as boulders in the river bottom in the Daxi river, Hunan Province, China, these lovely stones are carefully carved to bring out the calcite and celestite crystals that formed in a charcoal gray limestone. Their origin is ancient marine sedimentary deposits, about 290 to 245 million years ago, during the Mesozoic Era. The earliest record of collecting these stones in China dates back to the 18th century.

These are often faked or painted but this is a natural genuine article!

Chrysanthemum Stone is named for its lovely flower like spray design.

This hand carved piece is 4.25 inches by 2.75 inches and 1.5 inch thick. It weighs over 1 pound and it does not stand on its own.
