Natural Orthoceras Egg Morocco Fossil 3 inch Rock This Orthoceras (an ancient cousin to the Squid) lived in the Devonian Period about 450 million years ago and the fossil was found in the Atlas Mountains in southern Morocco, at the northern fringe of the Sahara Desert. These very primitive members of the Phylum Cephalopoda are ancestral cousins of the modern squid or octopus. The word Orthoceras means "straight horn" and refers to its shape. All Orthoceras have chambers seperated by walls called Septa. They also have a tube that runs down the center of the shell called a siphuncle. It is believed that this tube was used to carry gas into the chambers to control buoyancy of the shell. The term fossil refers to any preserved remains or imprint of a living organism (usually ancient), such as a bone, shell, footprint, or leaf impression. The word Orthoceras means "straight horn" and refers to its shape. They are a member of the Anthropod family. Metaphysical Properties: Fossils can help increase accomplishments in the area of business and add excellence to one's environment. They also aid one in being open to change and new ideas. The hand carved egg is not quite 3 inches or 73 mm high. These eggs are finished in Morrocco so they can be exported as "finished product". They are not perfectly shaped and may be a little bumpy or pitty! Shipping terms: I am always happy to combine shipping. Ebay customers-for accurate combined billing, please wait for my invoice!
