Elephant Labradorite Animal Carving Rock Stone Rainbow Gem Labradorite has an background color of dark gray, but it displays a beautiful iridescence, giving off rainbow-colored reflections known as labradorescence when light hits it in certain directions - this is quite stunning and it is one of those stones that initially can appear a bit uninteresting until it is turned this way or that. The usually intense colors range from the typical blues and violets through greens, yellows and oranges. Some rare specimens display all these colors simultaneously. Labradorite is the characteristic feldspar of the more basic rock types such as diorite, gabbro, andesite or basalt. Labradorite shows the iridescent display of colors due to minute inclusions of another mineral. It is named after Labrador, Canada, although this piece, and a lot of gem grade material, comes from Madagascar. This elephant is 3 inches tall by 4 inches long and 2 inches wide. It has great blue color flash on one side. Metaphysical Properties: Labradorite is thought by some to symbolize the moon and the sun, and in fact has been found to be an ingredient of moon rock. It is said to assist the wearer to handle changes, promoting strength and perseverance. The Elephant is commitment, strength, and power. The elephant attains old age and with it, wisdom and long memory. The Elephant is considered a strong symbol of luck in Thailand. The Hindu god of wisdom and success, Ganesha, is usually depicted with an elephant's head. The elephant has been a symbol of the Republican Party of the United States ever since 1874.
