Goldstone

Goldstone SlabGoldstone has thousands of shiny flecks of gold in a manmade stone, said to have been invented by accident in the 17th century in Venice. The story has it that a monk accidentally dropped copper shavings into a vat of molten glass to create this fabulous material. This may be a myth, but the material is stunning and well accepted in the rock and mineral world.

This man-made glass shimmers with every move. The most common color is a rust orange (usually referred to as red goldstone. It cobalt is sustituted for the copper it becomes a lovely indigo blue (almost purple) and the emerald green color occurs when manganese is used. Goldstone polishes well with tin or cerium oxide and it can be carved into beads, figurines, spheres, animals and other stone carvings, or cabochons.

OakRocks has been in the rock and mineral business for 30 years.

We are a great source for Goldstone rough slabs!
