Quartz, Rose Quartz, Citrine, Amethyst

Quartz Quartz is the most common single mineral on earth. It is found on every continent, and just about every country. Quartz has a hardness of 7, snd it polished and wears well. It comes in white or milky (due to imperfections in the crystallization, such as cracks, bubbles, etc>), optically clear (referred to as Rock Crystal), Rose Quartz, Smoky Quartz, Citrine and even purple - Amethyst! The different colors are due to the presence of organic matter.

Quartz has many uses. Most notably in the control of radio frequencies. Radios made during World War II had tiny slices of quartz in their tuning circuits, Quartz is also used in watches.

Quartz, Rose Quartz, Citrine, and Amethyst occur in many formations, both massive and crystals. Optically clear does not mean it has no inclusions. It means that the crystal is not milky or cloudy at all.

Quartz has long been the subject of spiritual beliefs and folklore. Crystal balls brought back by the Crusaders where believed to possess magical powers. In fact, the name crystal comes from the Greek for "ice", as it was believed that rock crystal was eternally frozen. In ancient Rome, crushed Amethyst was added to wine cups to prevent drunkenness.

Rose Quartz is one of the most desirable varieties of quartz. The pink to rose red color is completely unique, unlike any other pink mineral species. The color is caused by iron and titanium impurities. Rose Quartz comes from Brazil. It is usually cludy or milky, not transparent.
Citrine is a member of the quartz family too, and its color can be a pale yellow to a rich amber to almost brown. Citrine is the most valuable variety of Quartz. Citrine is often mistaken for topaz, true topaz has a hardness of 8. Smoky Quartz is usually a dark gray to dark brown color.
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz and is a popular gemstone. It gets its color from the presence of manganese. It is thought to be one of the first gemstones used by man and it is the February birthstone. Its name comes from the Greek amethustos meaning "not drunken". In ancient times it was believed that amethyst could keep you sober. Amethyst is in the foundation walls of the New Jerusalem. Some fine stones still adorn the British Crown Jewels.

The belief in the magical properties of the rocks and minerals is not new. Belief in the supernatural properties of rocks and minerals bringing peace, wellness and protection goes back beyond recorded history. There are ancient legends that trace rocks, minerals and crystals back to the creation of the Earth and the Universe. Most of my metaphysical information is taken from The Book of Stones-Who They Are and What They Teach, with permission from its co-author, Mr. Robert Simmons.

Metaphysically clear Quartz is said to have an incredible variety of energies and forms. It is used to structure, store, amplify, focus, transmit and transform energy, which includes thoughts, emotions and information. Rose Quartz is the stone of unconditional love! It opens the heart to all types of love: self-love, family love, & romantic love. Rose Quartz is said to be protective during pregnancy and childbirth and to be helpful with weight loss! Citrine helps one overcome difficulties and is said to help one overcome feelings of being undeserving. And Amethyst is said to assist with healing alcoholism, compulsive behaviors, and addictions of all kinds. Amethyst brings energies of stability, peace, calm, balance, courage and inner strength.
