Tiger Eye and Tiger Iron

Tiger Eye Tiger Eye or Tiger's Eye is a chalcedony, or a member of the quartz family, usually with rich yellow and brown stripes. Occassionally Tiger Eye is dyed red or blue. Heating Tiger Eye sometimes causes it to turn a reddish color. It is most commonly found in Africa. It contains oriented fibers of crocidolite that have been replaced by silica. The fibers are twisted or crumpled instead of straight, reminiscent of sand and sunlight. Tiger Eye is also vitreous (hard, unbendable and glasslike). Tiger Eye was named for its chatoyant cat's eye effect. Most Tiger Eye comes from South Africa.

Tiger Iron Tiger Iron consists of Red Jasper, Hematite, and Tiger eye. It is a great example of a metamorphosed gemstone: More than 2 billion years ago, deposits of these three materials were slowly mashed together as tectonic plates shifted. The tremendous pressures on the original crystals resulted in the stones intricate, banded designs. Each stone can be seen distinctly in layers of gold, silver, brown and red. Tiger Iron is found in Australia.

Roman soldiers wore Tiger Eye for protection in battle, and the stone was thought to be all-seeing due to its ocular appearance. However, tiger eye made its gemstone debut sometime in the late 19th century and was much more valuable back then than today.

Metaphysically Tiger Eye is said to enhance integrity, willpower, practicality and correct use of power. It is a stone that brings good luck, and prosperity, often in the form of money. It is a very protective stone, and is especially protective during travel. Tiger Iron offers strength both emotional and physiclly, allowing one to feel more confident.
