This Chrysocolla-Malachite piece is polished on one face-left natural rough on the back and bottom.
It is 4.5 inches by 3.25 inches and 2 inches at its thickest. It sits for display on any of its edges.
Chrysocolla and Malachite are copper ores and Arizona is the leading copper producing state. This material was found in the Bagdad Copper Mine in Arizona. This mine is still operating, but it is believed that the oxide zones that produce this material are all played out.
Chrysocolla is known as a healing stone among Native American Indian cultures where it was used for strengthening the body's resistance and bringing about calm feelings where there is upset.
Chrysocolla is named from the Greek chrysos - "gold" and kolla - "glue" in allusion to the name of the material used to solder gold. Malachite is is named for the Greek word for "mallow", a green herb.
