This is a slab of orbicular Ocean Jasper from Madagascar. Jasper is a type of quartz belonging to the chalcedony family.
This variety is silicified rhyolite flow from off the northwest coast of Madagascar. It can only be seen and collected at low tide. The area has no road, so the material must be transported to civilization by boat.
This type of Jasper was so named because of its location and because it resembles the foam as the water recedes back into the ocean, with its wavy patterns of green-gray, white, cream, beige, brown, pink and maroon.
