Sodalite Stone Sphere Brazil
This lovely blue and white Sodalite sphere is 1.5 inches or 40 mm in diameter.
Sodalite is a rich royal blue mineral. Although massive Sodalite is opaque, crystals are usually transparent to translucent.
The white inclusions are Calcite.
It comes from Bahia, Brazil.
Discovered in 1806 in Greenland, Sodalite did not become important as an ornamental stone until 1891 when vast deposits of fine material were discovered in Ontario, Canada.
Sodalite's name refers to its sodium content.
