Dumortierite Stone Egg
This lovely dark blue stone Dumortierite egg is 2 inches or 50 mm in height. This egg is darker than it appears in the picture.
Dumortierite is an aluminum borate silicate mineral. It comes from Brazil.
It has a hardness of 7 and ranges from pink to purple to blue. It typically occurs in high temperature aluminum rich regional metamorphic rocks.
Dumortierite was first discovered in 1881 in Chaponost, in the Rhone-Alps of France. It was named for the French paleontologist Eugene Dumortier.
