Tiger Iron Lapidary Rough Rock Stone Slab
This pretty unpolished Tiger Iron stone slab is 3.6 inches by 1.7 inches and 7 mm thick.
It weighs .20 lbs and is shown wet in the first 2 pictures.
Beautiful chatoyant shimmering gold in a brown matrix with metallic Hematite rivers, this is Tiger Iron from Australia.
Tiger Iron consists of Red Jasper, Hematite, and Tiger's Eye (or tiger eye).
Tiger Iron is a great example of a metamorphosed gemstone: More than 2 billion years ago, deposits of these three materials were slowly mashed together as tectonic plates shifted. The tremendous pressures on the original crystals resulted in the intricate, banded designs of tiger iron. Each stone can be seen distinctly in layers of gold, silver, brown and red, drawing unique vertical and horizontal patterns.
