Coal Extra Large Chunk Mineral Specimen Stocking Stuffer Rock
This is an all natural extra large chunk of Coal and it is 2.6 inches by 2.3 inches and 2.1 inches thick.
Bituminous Coal is a combustible black or brownish-black sedimentary rock, formed as rock strata called coal seams and is primarily for fuel.
Coal is from Precambrian strata, which predate land plants. This coal is presumed to have originated from residues of algae.
I'm not sure were it comes from, but the well-known tale that naughty children well receive a lump of coal in their stocking is not strictly an American invention. Other cultures have similar traditions. In the olden days coal was used for heating, so it’s easy to imagine Santa snatching a piece of coal from the scuttle and popping it into a child’s stocking on his way up the chimney!
