Metaphysical Defintion and Healing Crystals

Metaphysical Meanings on Rocks, Crystals and Minerals

What is metaphysics?

Metaphysics is the branch of philosophy that investigates principles of reality transcending those of any particular science. It deals with defining “being”, such as: why do we exist. More recently, the term "metaphysics" has also been used more loosely to refer to "subjects that are beyond the physical world". A metaphysical information book, for instance, may be about spirits, faith healing, healing properties or energies of rocks, minerals and crystals, etc.

The belief in the magical metaphysical healing powers of rocks, crystals and minerals is not new. Belief in the supernatural healing properties of rocks, crystals and minerals bringing peace, wellness and protection goes back beyond recorded history. There are ancient legends that trace rocks, minerals and crystals back to the creation of the Earth and the Universe.

History is rich with stories about the mystical and magical power stones and minerals, including legends from Atlantis, Egypt, Sumeria, Babylonia, the Hindu culture, Greece and Rome. Every culture has its own beliefs about specific stones, and those beliefs are often tied to that culture's history, geography, and spiritual practices. The earliest records of crystal healing come from ancient Egypt. The Ebers papyrus states the medicinal uses of many different rocks and minerals. Healingwith crystals is also recorded in India’s Ayurvedic records and in traditional Chinese medicine from around five thousand years ago. Several shamanistic cultures practice crystal healing, including the Inuit of Canada.

The modern day resurgence of interest in the metaphysical healing powers of rocks and minerals combines a lot of the old information. Even today beliefs will vary. In most of my listings I include some metaphysical properties of the rock, crystal  or mineral. I choose only to include the “spiritual” or “emotional” information. Though many people believe rocks and minerals can also heal physically, I am not an expert in the field, and would not want to supply any misinformation.

Most of my metaphysical properties information is taken from The Book of Stones-Who They Are and What They Teach, with permission from its co-author, Mr. Robert Simmons. I have known Mr. Simmons for many years and have found him to be an honest and intelligent man. He has been writing and teaching about the metaphysical properties of healing stones for twenty years.

The Book of Stones-Who They Are & What They Teach is the most in-depth, definitive guide to the world of crystals, minerals, and stones; and their metaphysical energies.

So, how does one use the healing power of a rock, mineral or crystal? The easiest way to start is to choose some rocks or minerals and place them in your home. Most stones are beautiful in their own right and millions of people collect them just for that purpose! I also believe it can be fun to give rocks, minerals, or crystals as gifts to those you believe may benefit from its special healing powers. Perhaps include a little note of information explaining to the recipient why you choose that particular rock!
