This is a lovely Hampton Butte Jasper unpolished petrified wood rough rock that is 4.7 inches by 4.1 inches wide and it is wedged shaped from .1 to .86 inches thick.
It weighs .66 lbs. and is shown wet in the first 3 pictures.
This is a jasper replaced Oligocene wood from Hampton Butte near Brothers, Oregon.
This material is from a limb cast as the wood decayed before the replacement occurred and so none of the characteristics of the original wood are present.
Most of the fossilized wood collected in this area of Oregon is identified as Coniferous, Cypress, Sequoia and Quercus (oak).
Hampton Butte is notable location among rock collectors for its rich deposits of unique green petrified wood and limb cast. It is an 120-acre rockhounding site, located 12 miles northeast of Highway 20 surrounded by BLM and private property.
