Hippopotamus Stone Figurine Carving
This hand carved white and gray Howlite stone hippopotamus figurine is 3.7 inches long and 1.6 inches wide and 1.8 inches tall.
Howlite, which is named for its discoverer Henry How (a Nova Scotia geologist), is one of those minerals that is more famous for imitating another mineral. Often the other mineral is turquoise because, though Howlite is always white or gray, it can accept dyes fairly easily and is often dyed sky blue.
This Howlite is from Africa.
Metaphysical Properties: Howlite is said to decrease selfishness, stress, pain, and rudeness. It increases tact. It is also said to help bones, teeth, calcium levels and leg cramps. And it heightens creativity!
The Hippopotamus is associated with birth, motherhood and the protection of the young. Tauret was a goddess of childbirth, nurturing and protection. She was depicted as a pregnant hippopotamus.
The hippo can teach you how to move through the emotional waters and keep in touch with your intuition, while remaining grounded, practical and stable.
The hippopotamus is sacred in Egyptian and African traditions. Its name means "Water Horse," and it spends most of its day in water.
