Product Description
Indian Paint Stone Slab Unpolished Rough Rock
This lovely Indian Paint Stone unpolished stone slab is 3.1 inches long by 2.7 inches wide and 5.5 inches thick.
It weighs .12 lbs. and is shown wet in the first 2 pictures.
Indian Paint Stone is a rhyolite with hematite that creates unique patterns and "pictures", hence its name.
It is also called Death Valley Paint or Death Valley Picture Rock because it comes from the Death Valley area of California. It has become rare, because collecting it is no longer possible since Death Valley became a National Park in 1992.
The interesting patterns and colors are created by trace amounts of iron and manganese being drawn into the rock by capillary action through minute cracks in the stone.
