Kunzite is the pink to purple colored gem form of the mineral spodumene. Spodumene is a mineral that belongs to the pyroxene group, and it occurs in several varieties, each with distinct color characteristics.
Kunzite was first discovered in 1902 in the Pala region of San Diego County, California, by gemstone prospector George Frederick Kunz, after whom the stone is named.
The pink coloration of kunzite is attributed to trace amounts of manganese within the crystal lattice structure.
Kunzite has a perfect cleavage.
Kunzite is found in various locations around the world, primarily within igneous rock formations called pegmatites. These pegmatites form from the slow cooling of molten magma and often contain pockets rich in lithium-bearing minerals, making them ideal environments for Kunzite crystallization.
Metaphysical Properties of Kunzite: Kunzite is said to help one be more open to experiencing love and positive energy.
