Product Description
Maury Moss Agate Polished Rock Collector Oregon
This lovely Maury Moss Agate polished rock is slabbed and polished on one face, left natural rough elsewhere.
The polished stone face is 4 inches by 3.7 inches wide and it is 1 inch at its thickest.
It does not stand on its own. This is old stock, self collected probably in the 50's or 60's.
The Maury Mountains are a small mountain range within the Ochoco National Forest. There is a popular rockhounding destination there in Central Oregon, the Maury Mountain Agate Beds, located 39 miles east of Prineville.
The Maury Mountain Agate Beds are renowned for their moss agate, a rare mineral that contains mossy or fern-like inclusions. The moss agate found there comes in various shades, including red, brown, green, and gold. Other types of agates, such as botryoidal, dendritic, and white plume agates, can also be found.
It has long since been mostly depleted, with only the occasional chunk being found at the now public digs. This old classic Moss Agate is getting pretty hard to find!
