Petrified Palm Wood Unpolished Stone Slab Rough Rock
This lovely unpolished stone slab of Petrified Palm Wood is 4.8 inches long by 3.5 inches wide and 5.5 mm thick.
It weighs .20 lbs. and is shown wet in the first 2 pictures.
This is a unique piece of Fossilized Palm Wood, or Palmoxylon from Texas, found in the Texas Catahoula Formation, in the Toledo Bend area near the Texas/Louisiana border.
Petrified Palm Wood has been the state stone of Texas since March 26, 1969.
This Petrified Palm Wood is from the Oligocene Epoch, about 34-23 million years old.
Ancient Palm Wood is not a true wood, as it’s trunk were composed of parenchyma, a fibrous support material that surrounded hollow tubes of the plant's vascular structure. These tubes transported water, nutrients, wastes, and other materials through the plant. When Petrified Palm Wood turned fossilized it kept the original characteristics of the Palm Wood and when it is cut perpendicular to the trunk these this vascular structure can be seen as polka dots.
Metaphysical Properties: Petrified Palm Wood is said to remove petty annoyances and enhance one's connection to earth and nature. It is considered a stone of patience.
