Petrified Wood Round Polished Rock Utah
This lovely piece of Petrified Wood is a full "round" (bark all the way around), slabbed and polished on one side, natural rough on the back.
The Petrified Wood round is 5.85 inches long by 2.45 inches wide and .5 inch thick.
It is agatized and translucent in some areas!
The Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument is in southern Utah. The park features a high mesa that was once an ancient floodplain.
Boulder Mountain is a lesser-known spot for finding petrified wood here. It is the north end of the park near Boulder. This area is part of the Late Triassic Chinle Formation, about 200 million years old.
The Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument in Utah was established in 1996. Though from 2017 the boundaries were reduced for a short period, they were restored in 2021 and collecting is illegal in the area.
This piece was from an old collection and was self collected in the 40's or 50's, prior to the establishment of the park.
