This lovely piece of Petrified Wood is a full "round" (bark all the way around), slabbed and polished on one side.
The Petrified Wood round is 5.1 inches long by 4.85 inches wide and .6 of an inch thick.
The Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument is in southern Utah. The park features a high mesa that was once an ancient floodplain.
Hanksville is a small city located in the northern part of the Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument in southern Utah and is north of the famous Henry Mountains. The petrified wood found here is from the Upper Jurassic and is 150 million years old.
The Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument in Utah was established in 1996. Though from 2017 the boundaries were reduced for a short period, they were restored in 2021 and collecting is illegal in the area.
This piece was from an old collection and was self collected in the 40's or 50's, prior to the establishment of the park.
