Blue Chrysocolla & Red Cuprite Polished Stone Slab
This Sonora Sunset (aka Sonoran Sunrise) stone is slabbed and polished on one side.
The rare collector rock is 5 inches long by 3 inches wide and it is 1/4 inch or 6 mm thick.
It could be recut into cabochons.
This is a gorgeous slab of blue Chrysocolla and red Cuprite (and Chalcotricite= orangey red) from Mexico!
It is from the Milpillas Mine, in Sonora, Mexico.
The mine opened in 2006 and but longer produces this material. Though most copper mines are open pit mines-this material is covered by 1000 feet of gravel!
Chrysocolla is known as a healing stone among Native American Indian cultures where it was used for strengthening the body's resistance and bringing about calm feelings where there is upset.
Chrysocolla is named from the Greek chrysos - "gold" and kolla - "glue" in allusion to the name of the material used to solder gold. Cuprite is named from the Latin, cuprum, meaning copper.
