Agatized Coral Rock Ashtray Bowl
This bowl or ashtray is carved from a natural piece of Rugose Agatized Coral from the middle Permian Maoka formation in Laibin, central Guangxi, South China.
The bowl is 3.76 inches by 3.25 inches and 2 inches thick. The opening is about 2.25 inches in diameter.
Fossil Coral is actually a stone pseudomorph after coral.
It is ancient coral that died many years ago and than was replaced by minerals that changed it into a chalcedony jasper stone.
The Fossil Coral stones retain the characteristics of the original replaced coral.
These darker brown colored Fossil Coral Jasper bowls or ashtrays have a striking orbicular pattern.
