This lovely green rough rock Chrysoprase is from Queensland, in Western Australia and is 4.6 inches long by 3.35 inches wide and .6 of an inch to 1.4 inches at its thickest.

Chrysoprase or sometimes spelled Chrysophrase, is the green variety of Chalcedony. Chalcedony (kal SED' nee) is any form of microcrystalline quartz , where the crystals are too small to be seen without high magnification.
The apple-green color is due to small amounts of iron present during crystallization. High grade Chrysoprase is translucent. his piece looks mostly opaque.
The word chrysoprase comes from the Greek chrysos meaning 'gold' and prasinon meaning 'green'.
