Beautiful fossil Stingray Dermal Scute from the Miocene epoch fond in the Bone Valley Formation in Florida.
These wonderful fossil is 1.69 inches long by .8 of an inch wide and .6 of an inch thick.
This specimen is a fossil dermal denticle from a stingray. These denticles scutes are specialized dermal scales, which provided armor and reduced water friction on the ancient animals. This fossil denticle came from the Bone Valley formation in Florida and are from the Miocene epoch or about 15 million years old.
