Product Description
Hydrogrossular Garnet California Unpolished Stone Slab Rough Rock
This is hydrogrossular garnet is mixed with vesuvianite (also known as idocrase), which is a different mineral with very similar properties to garnet.
Hydrogrossular Garnet differs from the other garnets in that it is never transparent. It ranges from translucent to opaque. The most common color is a blueish green, but they are also found in pink, white, and gray.
It is from the Kirkby collection and was self-collected sometime in the 1930's to the 1960's.
I believe this comes from California, possibly Lindsay or Happy Camp, but is also found in Pulga CA, and in Washington, Pakistan, and South Africa.
It’s also known as Californite, California Jade or American Jade and in fact, it is often given a trade name that includes "jade" because of its resemblance to jade.
