Marcasite Pyrite Crystal Natural Mineral Specimen
This lovely shiny Pyrite crystal cluster mineral specimen is just 2 inches by 1.56 tall and 1.28 inches deep.
Marcasite is a yellow to silvery-yellow iron sulfide mineral with a chemical composition of FeS2. It forms by precipitation from acidic waters in surface or near-surface environments. Marcasite is commonly found in sediments, sedimentary rocks, and hydrothermal deposits in many parts of the world. Marcasite has historically been used as a source of sulfur; however, today it does not have any significant industrial use.
Marcasite crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal system. These are golden twinned coxcomb shaped crystals of sparkling iridescent marcasite, with minor pyrite on a quartz matrix.
From an old collection collected pre-1960. The exact location is unknown, but it is from the Tri-State District of Kansas, Missouri & Oklahoma.
