Orbicular or Polka Dot Agate

Orbicular Agate or Polka Dot Agate is so named for its spheres or polka dot pattern.
The dots are sharp or fuzzy concentric orbs and they can range in size from very tiny up to quite large.
Orbicular Agate can be translucent or opaque and it is usually clear, white or gray. The dots can be white, cream, beige, brown, gray, black or even yellow. The dots are caused by minerals present in small amounts during the formation.
Smaller polka dots are the rarest type of inclusion and they are can often be found with other types of inclusions, such as moss or dendrites.
Montana Agate is considered a moss agate because of the mossy shape of its inclusions, but often it is banded, polka dotted or even has dendrites.
The most well- known Polka Dot Agate comes from the Priday Agate Beds in central Oregon near Madras. The Blue Ice Polka Dot Agate is a stunning blue agate with cool orbs of brown, yellow or orange.
Some Polka Dot Agate came from the Chuckwalla Springs area in the Chuckwalla Mountains, in Riverside County, California.
There are other agates, such as those from Brazil, that often have larger orbicular patterns.
And similar looking gemstone material is also found in other parts of the world, including the Gobi Desert Agates from Mongolia.
