Pinolith or Pinolite Lapidary Rough Rock Stone Slab
This lovely and very rare material is known as Pinolith or Pinolite.
This natural unpolished semi precious stone slab is 4 inches by 3 inches and 5.5 mm thick.
It weighs .22 lbs. and is shown wet in the first 2 pictures.
This very rare material was actually first discovered in 1873 and comes from the magnesite deposit at Sunk, Hohentauern, Niedere Tauern, Styria, Austria.
It is a metamorphic rock containing magnesite as crystals in a dolomite and graphite matrix.
It is named Pinolith because the magnesite inclusions resemble pine cones in shape.
This material is a 3.5 to 4.5 hardness and this piece could be recut.
