Rhodonite is pink semiprecious stone, that is a metamorphic manganese metasilicate with a hardness of 5.5 to 6.5.

The black dendritic inclusions are manganese oxide. It may also have white inclusions, which are calcite.

Rhodonite typically occurs as a opaque granular, fine-grained and massive formation. Rhodonite can be found in crystal formation, but they are very rare.  Deep red crystals are highly sought after. 

This stone gets its name from the Greek word rhodos meaning rosy.

Rhodonite was once used to make service platters in Russia and was often given as a gift during royal czarist weddings.

Rhodonite is the official gem of Massachusetts. Though actually found there and in several other locations around the world, including California, New Jersey, Russia and some truly beautiful gemmy specimens come from the Tamworth area of New South Wales, Australia. It is also found in Tasmania, Queensland and Western Australia. Currently the vast majority of Rhodonite is coming from Menas Gerais, Brazil .
